The Scalpel HT Carbon 3 is Cannondale's cross-country race hardtail, built around a full carbon frame with Proportional Response tuning — every frame size gets its own layup and geometry so a small rides with the same balance as a large, rather than being a scaled-down version of it.
Flex zones built into the chainstays let the rear end give a little over roots and chatter, taking the edge off a rigid back end without costing pedalling efficiency. The geometry is deliberately slacker than traditional XC, so it stays composed on fast, technical descents while the seated position keeps weight forward on steep climbs.
The build is Shimano Deore 12-speed throughout with a 10-51 cassette, giving a genuine race-ready range on one chainring. A RockShox Recon Silver RL handles the front with 110mm of travel and a 15x110mm thru-axle, and Shimano MT400 hydraulic discs with a 180mm front rotor take care of stopping. Wheels are tubeless-ready WTB ST i25 rims laced to Shimano TC500 hubs, shod with a fast-rolling Maxxis Aspen rear and a grippier Rekon Race up front.
