The Rift Zone 2 is the middle bike in Marin's short-travel trail range, and the one most people should be looking at — 140mm front, 130mm rear, with a component spec that no longer feels like a compromise.
The Series 3 6061 aluminium frame uses Marin's MultiTrac suspension platform, with Boost 148x12mm spacing, a threaded 73mm bottom bracket and ISCG05 tabs. Suspension is a step up from the Rift Zone 1: a Marzocchi Bomber Z2 with the Rail damper up front, and a RockShox Deluxe Select RT with a DebonAir sleeve at the rear — both genuinely good units rather than budget substitutes.
Drivetrain is Shimano Deore 12-speed with a 10-51 cassette on a 32T direct-mount ring, which is about as wide a range as a single ring can give. A TranzX dropper post comes fitted with 150-170mm of travel depending on frame size. Braking is Shimano BR-MT200 hydraulic with 180mm rotors front and rear.
Wheels are 29mm-inner tubeless-compatible alloy on 2.35in Vee Tire Flow Snap rubber, and the cockpit is a 780mm mini-riser on a short 35mm stem. Marin call it their most playful short-travel trail bike, and the geometry backs that up. This one is the Small frame in teal.
