The San Quentin is Marin's aggressive hardtail — a bike built for riders who want singletrack capability and are just as interested in getting the wheels off the ground. It is a different animal from the Bobcat or Bolinas: shorter, stiffer, and set up to be thrown around.
The Series 2 double-butted 6061 aluminium frame is built around a slack, jump-friendly geometry, and an SR Suntour XCM32 Boost gives 120mm of travel up front. The 141mm open dropout at the rear is the detail that gives this bike away — it is designed to take abuse from repeated hard landings.
Gearing is a simple 1x9 microSHIFT setup with a clutch rear derailleur and a wide 11-46 cassette on a 32T narrow-wide ring. The clutch and the narrow-wide ring together mean the chain stays put through rough landings, which on a bike like this matters more than having more gears. Tektro M275 hydraulic discs run a 180mm front rotor.
Wheels are 29mm-inner tubeless-compatible alloy on big 2.6in Vee Tire Flow Snap rubber — volume that does some of the work a rear shock would. A 780mm bar on a very short 45mm stem makes it quick to change direction. This one is the 27.5in wheel, Medium frame in teal.
