The San Rafael DS1 is a dual sport bike — Marin's bridge between pavement and dirt, for the rider who wants one bike that handles the commute during the week and the rail trail at the weekend.
The Series 2 Dual Sport 6061 aluminium frame runs 700C wheels with disc brakes, and an SR Suntour NEX fork gives 63mm of travel with preload adjustment. That is a modest amount of suspension by mountain bike standards, and deliberately so: enough to take the jolt out of potholes, kerbs and broken trail, without the weight and sluggishness of a full-travel fork on tarmac.
Gearing is 2x7 Shimano — 14 gears from a 46/30 crank and an 11-34 cassette, with EF500 combined shifter/brake levers that are simple and durable. Power CX7 mechanical discs with 160mm rotors give reliable all-weather braking.
Tyres are Kenda Kahn 700x40mm — wide enough for gravel paths and unsealed trail, fast enough to not feel like hard work on the road. An alloy riser bar puts you in an upright, comfortable position with good visibility in traffic. This one is the Small frame in black.
